The appointment unfortunately did not take place. I drove all the way from Sandton for my 15:30 appointment and ended up waiting for almost an hour. By 16:30, there was still another patient ahead of me, and I had to leave due to a school pick-up in the West Rand and needing to factor in traffic.

What I found particularly disappointing was the lack of communication. The receptionist didn’t think to notify patients that the doctor was running an hour behind. A simple call or message would have allowed me to either reschedule or arrive later. I believe there’s an opportunity for the team to be

Amazing doctor

I’ve been with Dr Gumata for the last 7 months and absolutely love her scientific approach to dealing with infertility. After trying to fall pregnant for 4 years, her treatment plan had me pregnant in 6 months. She takes a very personalised approach, is very understanding and empathetic especially when dealing with infertility issues, which require sensitivity. We unfortunately had a miscarriage, however she’s been very encouraging and has adjusted our treatment plan accordingly. Love love this woman!

Got there, receptionist said Dr was busy and I will be waiting for quite a while I asked how long has she been busy for and receptionist said she doesn't know . Then I asked what do I do now because I booked in the middle of January and only got a date for the 6th of February again she said she doesn't know and that they are fully booked. The doctor and staff were very friendly. It feels like home and relaxed. Doctor does explain well and educates you on your current issues and remedies which is very reassuring.
The only area of improvement would be notifying patients of delays longer than an hour so we can avoid long waiting time.

My last weeks of pregnancy were wonderful after finding out about Dr Gumata. I have been struggling to find a great gynaecologist throughout my first and second trimesters. The ones I used to go were just interested in sucking money out of my pockets, but with Dr Gumata she’s more interested in your well-being and health. I just love that she’s patient and advises better as woman to woman. I gave birth naturally to such a beautiful and healthy baby girl. l had booked an appointment with the Dr when l was pregnant, since l could not get an earlier appointment, the earliest appointment could get was the 28th of August. Unfortunately, l lost my pregnancy while still waiting to see the dr. l still came to my appointment with the hope of seeing the dr so she can check if everything is okay and advise going forward.

I was referred by my GP for a fibrosis check-up. She did what she needed to do but I really didn’t feel comfortable. She was not receptive, not sure if she was coming from another shift, I found it hard to enquire about my condition. It felt as if she just wanted to finish the consult & since it was manageable I could just go but I had mentioned my discomfort from an everyday living. I reminded her of this, she prescribed but I am still experiencing discomfort but don’t feel the environment she set allows me to call & enquire further. Maybe it was a bad stressful day.

During my final appointment she explained the entire birthing process, given it was a planned C-Section, she explained the process and what I was to expect in theatre. It is well known that Caesarean section is a painful procedure with limited mobility. I am happy to say that my Caesarean section recovery was smooth with minimal pain. Dr Gumata is a very humble and kind obstetrician. I was referred to her by 2 people, a midwife and a good friend of mine. She is everything they said she was. She is the first doctor I have met who didn't dismiss the idea of a VBAC but instead told me the pros and cons and how in time we will see what the safest option is. Her receptionist is just the sweetest and what I love about both of them, is that even though their personalities are very different from each other, they are both fantastic and warm. They remember you by name. I don't have to explain who I am to them.

No issues with Dr Gumata. My only issue is that I waited 3 hours for my appointment. I understand that emergencies happen and that she was in surgery delivering a baby. I have no issue with that. But I do think the receptionist could have called the patients waiting to see her to inform them so they could have come in later and not wasted so much time in the rooms. I wasted a lot of time on work that I could have made provision for if I was informed.

There was an issue with medical aid payments reflecting from the side of the doctors so when we got in we were told we didnt pay from the first visit and of we needed to go in we had to pay R2200. The manner in which she dealt with the situation was abosultely rude if we wanted such an attitude, we would have gone to a government facility and not bothered to pay so much money.
Called medical aid they send in proof of payments and everything was sorted at the end but at the end we were so excited to check on the progess of the baby and all that was ruined and we didnt see the Doctor.

Dr Gumata is a great OB however the waiting times are ridiculous. Ea h visit I have had to wait more then a hour after my appointment time.
I have personally tried managing this by calling ahead and finding out how many patients doctor is generally behind but my last visit I still waited 2 hours before seeing doctor and that was 2.5 hours after my scheduled appointment.
We understand emergencies happen if the receptionists could be more proactive in letting patients know the delay time that would improve the experience.
